Move In Tips
Moving can be confusing and scary, especially if it is to a new town or area with which you are not familiar. Check out the links and tips below to help make your next move easier.
Utilities - Set up your utilities prior to move in day. Proof of utility service is required prior to granting access to your new home.
City of Columbia - Water, Electric, Sewer, Trash service
Ameren UE - Natural Gas
Boone Electric - Electricity (for some CHR properties)
Proof of renter's insurance, listing Columbia Home Rental as an interested party is one of the requirements prior to granting access. Renter's Insurance protects more than just your belongings in case of fire or other disaster. It also protects you from many liabilities. This invaluable coverage is much more affordable than many people realize. Remember to ask your agent for a multi-policy discount and bundle it with your auto insurance!
Meet your neighbors
Social Media programs like Nextdoor can help you learn about your neighborhood and connect with others nearby who have similar interests. However, don't let technology prevent you from introducing yourself to the neighbors.
Move Out Tips
Saying "Goodbye" is never easy, but here are some tips that will help smooth the process. When our residents move out, we want to do everything possible to make sure you can receive your full deposit back. The best way to do that is to be sure that all parties involved know and understand the process.
Residents are usually aware of any damages they may have to the home. The best option is to notify us about the damage at the time it occurs. However, if there is something that needs to be addressed, we can get our repair team in prior to your move out which will benefit you as we can keep costs down and payment arrangements can be made. Keep in mind, if you pay for the damages prior to your move, our staff can state in a reference that you received your deposit in full. This type of reference is beneficial with future landlords but also other creditors and even potential employers.
Leave it Clean
The simplest way to ensure your deposit refund is to clean! Cleaning crews are expensive and their expenses will eat up a deposit fast! To help you avoid unnecessary fees, we have developed a Move Out Checklist which you may use to help you remember the little things.
